Bibliophiles Will Rule The World, Geeks Wanted

I'm a bibliophile, as anyone who reads this little blog of nothing knows. I work in a book store in a mall that is on the brink of survival. I'm seriously worried that we may not get our lease renewed come January, but that isn't the purpose of this entry.

Shamrock asked myself, as well as the rest of the staff, to come up with ideas to boost revenue of the store. I happen to an author in my address book who is quite accommodating when it comes to signings and such, so I dropped him a line asking if he'd like to come back for a signing this summer. He agreed. The dates still need to be set up, probably some time in July, after his latest novel is released. James Rollins is a huge hit in my store, all the associates love his work and we recommend him to every one!

I'm just so excited that we're getting him back in. Portia is trying to set up a few romance authors. I've sent a message to Clive Cussler, though I don't think that one will go far, but we can always hope, can't we?

I've been rereading Rollins' last novel "The Last Oracle". I need to get that one signed. Rollins is a sweety when it comes to bringing old copies. More then glad to sign them, he is. I brought in all my older editions and he signed them all. What I think I'm most excited about is that he recently moved from California to Nevada, that makes him a local author! Yay Nevada!

So, I'm off to a baseball game. Sunday with a book and baseball... This day could get better though I'm unsure how.

Th1rteen R3asons Why

It's a novel by Jay Archer. I picked it up one day because I thought it was interesting, it sounded good to me and I had the money so why not? Little did I know that I was going to get involved in the thirteen reasons a girl chose to take her own life. Hannah Baker is a sophmore in high school and has discovered that there were connections between some of the students she had to endure. She recorded the reasons, naming the people that contributed to her decision to die.

We pick up the story when Clay Jenson collects the family mail one afternoon. He wanders the city over the course of the evening, following Hannah's directions, listening to her words as she truthfully tells her story. Clay doesn't want to listen, to think of what could have been, but he does. Because once you open a box of tapes, once you listen to the first one, you have to hear them all. You have know how the story ends.

Once I got to the tape with Clay on it, it was all downhill. I cried through to the end of the book. I cried for a life lost, for hopes killed, for dreams that never had a chance. I cried because she couldn't see past her pain. Everyone should read this novel, for the simple reason that Hannah teaches something. She teaches us that every action has repricusions. Every word spoken carries impact. We need to remember her lessons, even if she is a fictional character from a novel, perhaps especially so.

Thanks Dad

I have issues with my father. He's a workaholic and was never really around when I was a kid. That being said all of my physical needs were cared for, even if the emotional ones were ignored. Dad never did learn how to be there for me, though he is trying to be a better father. We still have our fights and arguments, but they aren't near as bad as they used to be.

Today, I realized that he thinks of me more then I thought he did. I got off work long before Dad did and was home in my room when he came in and opened a box in front of me. Inside was a Bose Soundsystem. One of those really cool ones for the iPod! I mean Bose is like the forerunner in soundsystems! And Dad got one for me. I know it isn't brand new, but that isn't the point. He gave me a toy that he knew I'd love. I've had it playing all afternoon.

For all the things that we disagree on, for all the arguments we've had, for as often as we butt heads, I do love my father, even if he is a pain sometimes.

I know you'll never read this, Dad, because I'll never show it to you and you're too computer illiterate to figure anything out. But just know that I do love you, for all my attitude and bitchyness. Thanks Dad.

Rambling Sick Person

UGH!!! I've been sick for the last few days, cold from hell! Had me flat on my back for two days. I'd still rather be in bed but there's this little thing called "work"... I can't afford to miss another day. I swear this cold is intense! Coughing, achy muscles, stuffy nose. I'm tired and want to sleep some more, but that isn't possible.

On a good note I got to watch a movie yesterday that I've been trying to watch for months. SciFi channel had "Merlin's Apprentice" on. I'd seen a different Merlin movie that also starred Sam Neill. It was pretty good. I may have to buy that one day. There are a few other movies in that series starring Neill.

Now I'm starting to ramble...

Under The Heat

I burned yesterday, I don't know why, I just did it. I've been so stressed out lately that everything is running together. Now I think it may be infected a little and there is no way I can can get that worked on. Fuck me! I'm such an idiot!!! In all the things I've learned... I never learned how to treat a burn.

I need help, but there is no way for me to get any. I hate this.
